Texas’ Texting While Driving Laws
In September 2017, the State of Texas banned texting while driving. Now, individuals who use their phone to text while operating a vehicle may face a ticket ranging from $25 to $99 for a first offense. A subsequent offense will cost $100 to $200. Throughout the state of Texas, it is illegal to hold a cellphone while driving through a school area. Accidents caused by texting and driving that result in bodily injury or death can be prosecuted as a Class A misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $4,000 and one year in the county jail.
